Sumter EMC is closely monitoring Hurricane Isaias and its potential impacts across our service territory. Current forecasts indicate the possibility of the following as the storm moves through Georgia. State officials have warned that impacts could continue through the weekend and may include damaging wind gusts, flooded roadways, and downed power lines.

• Strong winds 
• Localized flooding
• Downed trees 
• Power outages
• Isolated tornadoes

We encourage all members to remain weather-aware and take the following precautions:

• Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts.
• Charge mobile devices and keep flashlights and extra batteries readily available.
• Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and loose items that could become airborne in high winds.
• Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain or strong winds.
• Never drive through flooded roadways. 
• Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately at (229) 924-8041. Always assume a downed line is energized and dangerous.
• Have a plan in place in the event of extended power outages.

IF YOU ARE DEPENDENT ON MEDICAL DEVICES, you are responsible for providing a back-up source of power for the medical device or have a plan to move to a location that is not affected by the power outage. No utility can guarantee uninterruptible service, so we ask that you prepare now and have a plan in place in the event of an extended power outage.
